Legazpi Golf Diary: A Temporary Farewell and Welcoming My New Japanese "Partners" Monday, September 29, 2025

Good morning!

I'm sending you a fresh, crisp greeting today from Legazpi, Philippines.

The current temperature in Puro, Legazpi City, is 23 degrees Celsius. When I open the window, the cool air flows in—it’s the perfect, truly "refreshing" morning!

And of course, the star of Legazpi this morning is the magnificent Mount Mayon. Its perfectly symmetrical cone is glowing divinely, bathed in the morning sun. I hope the photograph does its beauty justice!

The high for today is expected to hit 31 degrees, making it feel like a mid-summer day. While the forecast mentions the possibility of an afternoon thunderstorm, the golfer's mindset is always, "It's probably just a quick tropical shower!" I'm sure it won't affect any rounds today!

A Brief Goodbye and the Search for New "Partners"

Well, I have some news: I am actually heading back to Japan temporarily today.

Because of this, I'll be taking a break from updating photos of Mount Mayon on the blog for a while. To all the Mayon fans out there, I apologize for the brief pause!

But rest assured! I will continue to update our golf information regularly.

The main purpose of this trip is to purchase new golf clubs in Japan. Once I return, I plan to quickly share the photos and detailed information of my new "partners" with all of you. Get ready—I can't wait to show you which clubs I pick!

Good Luck to All Golfers!

I'm sure many of you around the world are enjoying a fantastic golf day today. I hope you all have fun on the course and hit plenty of superb nice shots!

☆As of September 28, 2025, specific news directly related to corporate financial results or major, overarching industry shifts within Japan's golf equipment sector could not be confirmed through current search results.

However, based on media reports focused on September 2025, we can deduce several trends indicating the vitality and direction of the golf equipment market.

Estimated Trends in Japan's Golf Equipment Industry (September 2025)

The market appears to be highly active, based primarily on the following three points:

1. New Products and Their Impact on Sales Rankings

  • Driver and Utility Ranking Movements: Reports indicate that products from domestic manufacturers are climbing to the top of sales rankings, suggesting a resurgence and increased attention for Japanese brands, particularly with new drivers like the 'ONOFF KURO' and Bridgestone's (B-series). News about professional golfers (such as Ryo Ishikawa) using specific clubs is also driving utility sales rankings, demonstrating that professional success strongly influences gear purchases.

  • Focus on Emerging Shaft Brands: Articles highlighting new shaft brands like "ARETERA" suggest that the high-performance and custom components market remains vibrant.

2. Golf Practice and Services Utilizing the Latest Technology

  • Widespread Adoption of Ball Flight Trackers: There is significant buzz surrounding the high-precision ball flight tracking device "Trackman," with information noting that the "Trackman Range" system, specifically for outdoor driving ranges, has been installed in approximately 80 facilities across Japan. Services utilizing these devices, such as the online competition "Near-Pin Masters," suggest that technology-driven services at indoor and outdoor ranges are diversifying how golfers practice.

3. Media and Marketing Tailored to Golfer Needs

  • Approach to the Senior Segment: Golf magazine features focusing on topics like physical maintenance and preventing distance loss—such as "Don't Get Old!" and "Protect Your Distance"—indicate high demand among active senior golfers for solutions to counter the effects of aging.

  • Local, Community-Based Deals: Local golf newspapers and magazines (like "Goluo") specializing in specific regions (e.g., near Gunma Prefecture) are publishing their autumn editions. These publications feature discounted play information and competition guides, promoting golf participation at the regional level.

From these insights, it is inferred that as of September 2025, Japan's golf equipment industry is experiencing an active replacement demand fueled by new product releases, alongside continued investment in high-performance measuring tools and enhanced practice services.

However, the Philippine golf community is closely connected to the international schedule, particularly the Asian Tour. We can gauge the excitement in the Philippines from the activity on the nearby Asian Tour calendar during the second half of September.

Asian Tour and Philippines-Related Movements in Late September (Contextual Information)

The main developments that Philippine professional golfers and fans were following included:

  • Asian Tour Action: Sunday, September 28, marked the final day of the Asian Tour’s "Mercuries Taiwan Masters" in Taiwan.

    • Top Filipino professionals participate in this tour, and their performances receive significant coverage in Philippine golf news.

    • (Reference: The tournament was held from September 25 to 28.)

  • Anticipation for Upcoming Big Events: The Asian Tour calendar includes major tournaments set in the Philippines, such as the "International Series Philippines" and the traditional "Smart Infinity Philippine Open." The domestic golf community maintains keen interest in the dates and player fields for these prestigious events.

Footnote: The Buzz at Philippine Golf Courses

While there was no domestic tournament news, golf courses across the Philippines are typically very busy on weekends. Given that September marks the end of the rainy season and the beginning of more stable weather, it is highly likely that many local golfers were out enjoying a round that day.

◇On Sunday, September 28, 2025, the focus of American men's golf was the final day of the biennial, major international event: the Ryder Cup competition between the U.S. and European teams.

While the term "US Men's Golf" typically refers to the PGA Tour (the official American men's tour), this particular week did not feature a regular official PGA Tour event; instead, it hosted this historic, alternating team competition.

    • News reports highlighted the European team's strong performance, noting that even World No. 1 player Scottie Scheffler (USA) had suffered consecutive losses on the second day.

    • Based on the preceding results, it is highly likely that the European team overwhelmingly defeated the U.S. team to clinch the victory on this day.

2. Other US Men's Golf News

  • Regular PGA Tour official events were likely suspended or replaced by minor tournaments during the week of the Ryder Cup.

  • The primary news coverage related to the PGA Tour centered on the performances of the players in the Ryder Cup and the resulting implications for the World Ranking standings.

[Note]

The Ryder Cup is a team match-play tournament where the top professionals from the United States and Europe compete for national pride. It is undoubtedly one of the most fervently followed events by American golf fans, and it was certainly the biggest headline in US men's golf this particular week.

◇On Sunday, September 28, 2025, much like the PGA Tour (U.S. Men's Tour), it is highly probable that there was no official LPGA Tour (U.S. Women's Tour) event being held. As a result, the spotlight in women's golf was focused heavily on the developments in the JLPGA Tour (Japan Women's Tour).

1. LPGA Tour Status and Japanese Players (Focus on Post-Season Qualification)

News coverage centered on the performance of Japanese players on the LPGA Tour, such as Nasa Hataoka and Minami Katsu, and their ongoing battles for qualifying status (via the Re-ranking and securing their Tour Cards).

Notably, it was reported that Erika Hara had secured a spot in the top category of the point standings (a ranking that leads to LPGA promotion) before the final event of the LPGA's secondary tour. This was a major story as she confirmed her position for a potential spot on the LPGA Tour the following year.
