Golf Diary with a Spectacular View from Legazpi, Philippines

Good morning! It's a refreshingly clear morning in Legazpi, Philippines. This morning's view of Mount Mayon from Puro, Legazpi City is breathtakingly beautiful, and its majestic appearance is truly refreshing.

I'm sure many golfers around the world are enjoying a perfect day of golf today. I hope you all have a wonderful day of golf.

Now, here's my golf diary. I brought all the golf equipment I needed from Japan. If you enjoyed this website, please like and share it!

Half Round at the Foot of Mount Mayon

  • The other day, I played a half round at a golf course at the foot of Mount Mayon. This course has 18 holes. The outbound course is named "Ocean" and the inbound course is named "Mountain." It has a unique layout: from the clubhouse, the outbound course leads toward the ocean and the inbound course leads toward the mountain. Every hole offered views of the beautiful ocean and majestic Mount Mayon, and the course was varied, with a series of uphill and downhill shots.

Practice Round with Two Drivers

  • On this day, I played a practice round using two drivers: a TaylorMade Burner 860 (a model from over 20 years ago) and a Yamaha RMX 220 (a model from three generations ago). I hit two balls at each hole using the best-ball method for 14 holes.

  • The Burner 860 has a 405cc head capacity, a 10.5-degree loft, an S shaft (in the 50g range), and a length of 44.5 inches. The Yamaha, on the other hand, has a 460cc head capacity, a moment of inertia in the 5800s, the second-lowest in history, an original SR shaft, a loft of 10.5 degrees (upper setting), and a length of 45.5 inches.

  • When I actually compared the shots, the TaylorMade tended to hit the ball to the left, while the Yamaha hit the ball to the right and very high. Surprisingly, the fairway-keeping rate was higher with the TaylorMade from over 20 years ago. I was reminded once again of how much a one-inch difference in shaft size can make a big difference in feel. Next time, I'll reset the loft setting on my Yamaha clubs to "Normal" and practice again.
